Nancy Smith
VP, Global Media, Content and Community, American Express

Nancy Smith leads the company’s global media advertising strategy and directs the integrated content and digital strategy for the American Express brand.  In addition, Smith oversees American Express’ a number of major agency partnerships and drives innovative partnerships and collaborations with key media and digital properties.  Smith was recently chosen to be on the advisory board of NBC’s Women@NBCU, NBC Universal’s newly launched female-targeted sales and marketing initiative.

Prior to her current role at American Express, Smith served as Vice President of the Global Advertising and Brand Management group where she led the restructuring and transformation of American Express’ Media, Sponsorship and Event Marketing team into a unified department to serve the company as one integrated, global operating unit.  During this time, Smith also spearheaded the strategy and development of American Express’ first major experiential marketing programs which, today, serve as the model for corporate partnerships industry-wide.

Smith first joined American Express at American Express Publishing where she worked in marketing across all of the division’s publications.  Before joining American Express, Smith worked in publishing at Time, Inc. where, as Publisher, she was responsible for the Parenting magazine group.  She began her career in advertising at Young & Rubicam, Inc.

Smith has been a Board Member of both the IAA and the Association of National Advertisers and is currently on the Board of the Advertising Council.  She has been the recipient of numerous industry awards and recognitions over the years including: AdAge’s Media Maven, Media Industry News’ 21 Most Intriguing and, the Delaney’s Report Corporate Media Executive of the Year, and most recently, Advertising Women of NY’s Changing The Game award.

Smith has a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.  She is married and lives in New York City with her husband, Bill Green.
